Hemp Seed Trails
NDRI's hemp seed trail evaluates 20 hemp varietals grown in an on-farm scientific field experiment conducted under practical, organic growing conditions in Northern NSW & Northern Qld, Australia.
This study will give a realistic view of the variability of yields in the area of food (seed yields), fibre (for textiles, building material and energy) & flowers (medicinal/therapeutic).
This research will also cover:
-
The environmental impacts of growing hemp
-
Soil impacts including nutrient & biology; pre & post
-
Biomass weight (total biomass harvested) for potential CO2 drawdown and carbon lock-up
-
Water usage and the potential of hemp to be a ‘dry/drier crop’, (minimal irrigation).
